Shochu Tasting Masterclass

The British Sake Association is holding their first-ever shochu tasting masterclass and study group, where attendees will spend a wonderful evening exploring one of the oldest spirits in the world with the guidance of our shochu experts.

Guests will learn all about Japan’s prized indigenous spirits: honkaku shochu and awamori, which originated in the southernmost prefectures of Japan. We will explore these famous production regions during the session, starting from Kyushu: the home of shochu. We’ll stop in Kagoshima, Kumamoto and Oita, to then move south to the subtropical islands of Okinawa to sip some of the oldest Japanese spirit: awamori. We will discuss how each geographic region drove development of their unique style of shochu, and explain how each different base ingredient (sweet potatoes, rice, barley and many more) influences the spirit’s aroma and flavour.

Our hosting venue, Roka’s Shochu Lounge, will prepare delicious bites to pair alongside the wide range of shochu and awamori being tasted.

£53 for general public, £48 for British Sake Association members (current and new joiners)
