Toyama Sake Masterclass

The first regional Sake Masterclass at Kioku Bar at Raffles London at The OWO will explore the rich sake heritage of Toyama Prefecture. Just two hours from Tokyo, Toyama’s pristine water from natural springs and snowmelt from the North Japan Alps creates the perfect environment for producing high-quality rice and exceptional sake. Cold winters and centuries-old breweries make this region a must-visit for sake lovers.

Join Sake Scholar Instructor and WSET Sake Educator Sarah Stewart as she guides you through a tasting of five exceptional sakes from Toyama's top breweries:
Wakatsuru: Featuring the brand-new Itonami 2024, brewed with a yeast derived from a unique local fermented food.
Sanshoraku: Yamahai specialist, showcasing a rare Kame no O rice sake.
Shiraiwa: Led by Richard Geoffroy, former Dom Pérignon cellar master, with IWA sake.
Tama Asahi: A brewery making sake since1808, presenting a traditional nigori sake.
Masuda: Known for their Masuizumi brand, serving their rich and decadent kijoshu sake.

Special guest: Fourth-generation Takaoka Shikki craftsman Takeshi Musashigawa will be specially with us from Toyama, and will present the intricate art of Takaoka lacquerware. As a special treat, each guest will receive a handcrafted Takaoka Shikki sake cup or glass to take home.
