Professor Simon Kaner will be speaking at the British Museum’s upcoming Silk Roads conference, alongside Professor Susan Whitfield who will be giving the keynote speech.
This two-day conference examines the many instances and contexts in which people, objects and ideas moved and contacts and exchanges took place across Afro-Eurasia in the period AD 500 to 1000. Featuring presentations on new discoveries and perspectives, scholars and chairs from various disciplines will come together to explore an expanded understanding of the Silk Roads.
Further information on the conference and keynote can be found here.
Professor Simon Kaner’s talk relates to one of the Institute’s research projects: Nara to Norwich: Art and belief at the extremities of the Silk Roads, 500-1100. The recently updated online exhibition for this can be found here. A related in-person exhibition is also currently being shown at the Embassy of Japan, London until early in the New Year.
