Make Your Own Food Replica: Matcha Parfait

Food replicas, or shokuhin sanpuru, are skilfully created models displayed outside restaurants in Japan and are renowned for their unexpected realism. This workshop offers an introduction for beginners, who will be guided to make a food replica of a popular Japanese dish, using an easy DIY kit.

The workshop is led online by food replica instructor Satō Kaori, who is also a general manager of Ganso Shokuhin Sample-ya, a food replica shop in Tokyo.

There is also a brief online introductory talk on the history of food replicas from Iwasaki Tsuyoshi, president of leading food replica company Iwasaki Co., Ltd. (Tokyo), who is joining Japan House London for the opening of our exhibition of shokuhin sanpuru.

The workshop starts at 11:30 and lasts for about one hour.

The exhibition Looks Delicious! Exploring Japan’s food replica culture is on display in the Gallery at Japan House London until 16 February, 2025.
