Japan House London’s Shinkai Makoto film season starts with one of his earlier features, the heartfelt drama 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007).
Already featuring Shinkai’s signature aesthetic style, 5 Centimeters Per Second anticipates his later masterpiece Your Name with its theme of loneliness and a yearning for connection. It tells a story in three parts of two close friends Tōno Takaki and Shinohara Akari, separated by chance and reunited by determination. Starting with a close bond formed in an early 1990s elementary school, their relationship culminates in 2008 with a train passing through Tokyo.
The screenings are in Japanese with English subtitles. Duration: approx. 65 mins
Guests who are booked to attend the screening can also enjoy 10% off drinks at The Stand on their way in.
