BONSAI OPEN EXHIBITION

Bonsai evolved within the culture and philosophies of Japan, so to understand that culture is to better understand bonsai.”  and so we plan to expose as many examples of Japanese culture and crafts to our members and visitors as possible by adding a “Japanese Village” displaying activities such as origami, calligraphy, kintsugi and many others alongside our extensive bonsai display.

The Scottish Bonsai Open Exhibition featuring: an extensive display of 100+ bonsai trees, advice and information on the hobby and traders selling trees, pots, tools etc

A “Japanese Village” displaying:

  • Ikebana (flower arranging)
  • kintsugi, (repairing ceramics with gold)
  • origami (decorative paper folding)
  • calligraphy (Japanese lettering/design)
  • sumo (Japanese wrestling)
  • kyudo (traditional Japanese archery)
  • boro stitching (Japanese textile repair)
  • sashiko (traditional embroidery technique)
  • shiatsu (Japanese massage technique)
  • Kimono (dressing in a kimono)

As a special feature our Japanese Village will also include musical interludes on Japanese instruments such as the koto and shamisen.

Refreshments will also be available.
