Film Screenings: Your Name

The Beauty and Melancholy: Shinkai Makoto Film Season continues with Your Name – the second-highest grossing Japanese film of all time.

Considered by many the film which most defines Shinkai’s popular image, Your Name is one of the most influential and critically acclaimed anime films of the 21st century.

It tells the story of Mitsuha and Taki: two teenage strangers living completely different lives. One day they seemingly start waking up in each other’s bodies and form a bizarre connection. They swap back and forth helplessly, their lives and identities criss-crossing, leaving angry messages for each other as they struggle with their situation.

What starts as a simple fantasy comedy transforms into an adventure story about desperate searches, impossible hopes and two youngsters driven by their existential ache to connect and be together as the film repeatedly tears them apart.

The screenings are in Japanese with English subtitles. Duration: approx. 107 mins

*Please note that this movie is rated 12Aand is therefore not considered suitable for an audience younger than 12 years old unaccompanied by an adult
