To coincide with the visit to the UK by Ms. Kumi Tsujinaka, Master of Yamato Shigusa Densho-gaku, we are going to hold her first special lecture in the United Kingdom.
This lecture is for introducing Japanese culture to people in the UK, especially about traditional Japanese customs and manners, such as bowing and table manners (お膳), which may not be very familiar, even to many Japanese people nowadays.
In the lecture, you can learn “Why do Japanese people bow?”, and in the workshop, you can try together with us how to bow and feel the meaning through experience.
Some people may feel that “kata” (forms) and rules are strict, difficult, or boring. However, these traditional forms have been practiced for hundreds of years, over many generations, every day, all over Japan. Through this repetition, the Japanese values and way of thinking have been passed down for generations.
This event will be held in both Japanese and English.
We truly hope that people in London will join us to discover and experience Japanese wisdom.
About Yamato Shigusa
“Yamato Shigusa” is the traditional Japanese manners and customs that have been respected since before the year 593, in the Asuka period. This practice is not only about the kata (froms), but also about the heart and spirit behind them. Master Kumi Tsujinaka has been giving lectures in Kyoto, and this year is the 29th year of her teaching activities. Please visit our website for further information.
