Shoka no En: A Celebration of Early Summer Ikebana Display

Japan House London bursts into bloom with Shoka no En, a four-day celebration of seasonal ikebana, Japanese flower design, presented in collaboration with the London Chapter of Ikebana International.

Ikebana, often translated as ‘giving life to flowers’ and also known as kadō (lit. ‘the way of flowers’), originated over 550 years ago in Japan and has since evolved into numerous schools, each with their own distinctive philosophy and style.

This vibrant summer display invites guests to discover the diversity of contemporary ikebana while exploring more than 15 floral arrangements positioned throughout Japan House London. The works are created by practitioners from a ranges of schools including Ichiyo, Ikenobō, Koryūtōyōkai – Suibokukatema, Nippon Kadō Koryū, Ohara School of Ikebana, Ryūsei-ha and Sōgetsu School.
