NOMAD: Perspectives on Home in a Changing Japan

Nomad is a solo illustration exhibition by Molly Maine, exploring shifting concepts of ‘home’ in contemporary Japan. With a declining and ageing population, Japan has introduced a digital nomad visa to attract remote workers, while a new generation of Japanese people is moving beyond their hometowns, challenging long-standing cultural ties to place. For others, like evacuees from the Noto earthquake, leaving home is not a choice but a necessity.

Inspired by interviews with digital nomads in Japan, Noto evacuees, and local communities, Molly Maine brings these themes to life in a series of digitally illustrated, hand-finished limited-edition prints. Part of the proceeds will support recovery efforts in Noto following the earthquake.

This exhibition is sponsored by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
