Gifts wrapped with Yamada sen-i furoshiki

Interactive wrapping demonstration with Yamada Sen-i

Join us in the Shop for a series of interactive wrapping demonstrations with furoshiki producer Yamada Sen-i. Beautiful and practical, furoshiki (wrapping cloths) date from the Nara period (710-794 CE) and are still in use in Japan, from protecting books and bento boxes, to carrying things and gift-wrapping.

With the festive season fast approaching, learn the practice of furoshiki wrapping and pick up a signed copy of The Furoshiki Handbook by Yamada Etsuko.

Visitors will also receive a 10% discount on any furoshiki purchased in the Shop on the day of the event.

About Yamada Sen-i

Yamada Sen-i has been producing furoshiki in Kyoto since 1937, supplying department stores across Japan with their products. In 2005, the company opened its own shop in Tokyo, which it called Musubi – a word which is derived from the words ‘born’ (musu) and ‘beauty’ (bi) and can also mean ‘knot’ or ‘to tie’. Created using original dying methods as well as new techniques, furoshiki from Musubi can be used in a variety of ways, including wrapping objects, decoration, or as eco-bags.
