Ura Matsuri

An upturned toy box of live music and joyful performances featuring UK based East and South East Asian artists.

Ura Matsuri is a festival, showcasing both world-leading and emerging artists from the East and South East Asian diaspora working in the UK. Ura, means ‘other side’ in Japanese and Matsuri, ‘local community festival’ - this refers to its interest in providing a platform to under represented artists in today’s multi cultural UK. The performers are from various disciplines, with a particular focus on women artists. The festival is a celebration of rich and diverse cultural heritages and how the work has  been shaped by living in the UK.

Ura Matsuri has been running since 2016 annually and awarded Arts Council grant in 2024 and 2025. It was presented in South< Bank as part of their ESEA season in 2025.

In 2026 Ura Matsuri is venturing out to Leeds, Domino Club, with the usual vibrant line up of story telling, music, dancing and
