Art and Representation of Women in Japan

A three-hour public panel discussion examining the representation of women in Japanese art, literature, and media. The panel is drawn from academic history, literary fiction, and theatrical production and is moderated by a journalist. Prof. Janet Hunter of the London School of Economics and Dr. Juliana Buriticá Alzate of the University of Oxford represent the academic contingent and Emily Itami, a novelist whose work engages with questions of cultural identity, and Namino Horii-Rivoal, producer of a theatrical work developed over four years through direct research with seventy women and specialist academic supervision, represent the practitioner side. Moderation is conducted by journalist Yuki Sumner.
A networking session follows the panel. A book signing by Emily Itami and refreshments are also provided.
