Haiku Walk at the Japanese Summer Festival - Matsuri 2026

Join our outdoor poetry workshop with internationally acclaimed poet, Paul Conneally, and discover the art of haiku at the Japanese Summer Festival in Sefton Park.

Did you know that haikus are often seasonal and aim to capture a fleeting moment in time? And that they don't have to follow the well-known '5-7-5' syllable structure in English?

On this haiku walk, you will engage your five senses and explore how they shape haikus, write your own haiku, and share your work with others in a relaxed, outdoor setting. This workshop is suitable for all ages and sessions last for approximately 30-40minutes.

Paul Conneally is an internally acclaimed haiku poet and artist, who has led workshops for both children and adults in museums, schools, galleries, and in his favourite setting - 'outdoors'.

The Japanese Summer Festival, hosted by JSNW and JET Alumni Association NW, returns with a vibrant celebration of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, featuring koto (Japanese harp), kimono, martial arts, and more! Find out more here.
