This concert celebrates the rich musical traditions of both Japan and the United Kingdom through a programme performed by Japanese musicians based in London.

Alongside Japanese old songs, well-known songs from musical theatre, and contemporary Japanese piano solo works, the programme includes Prayer Bell Sketch for Piano by the British composer Oliver Knussen. The work was inspired by Knussen’s long friendship and artistic dialogue with the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, reflecting a unique cultural exchange between the two countries.

By presenting works that embody these artistic connections, we hope to introduce audiences to the rich musical relationship between Japan and the UK, while encouraging greater appreciation and understanding of both cultures.
