Japan House London presents a series of workshops this summer for making your own origami and furoshiki wrapping. Drop-in to family-friendly workshops, where you can create your own origami or learn about the wrapping techniques used in Japan.

 

Furoshiki

The culture of wrapping is part of daily life in Japan, as there is a custom of wrapping belongings, treasured items and gifts with pieces of cloth. This drop-in session will allow visitors to learn up to four basic wrapping techniques using furoshiki (square shaped cloth) and tenugui (rectangular cloth).

Origami (various designs)

Learn how to fold popular origami designs, including orizuru (crane), kabuto (helmet), iris and jumping frogs.

Origami (Tonton Sumo)

Create your own paper sumo wrestler and take part in a game of Tonton Sumo, a miniature version of one of Japan’s national sports. The game involves placing two rikishi (wrestlers) on a box ring and tapping the surface to make them move – the first to push the other out wins.
