Join us for a series of spotlight talks by Japan House London team members taking a closer look at selected works featured in the exhibitionKyotographie: Kawada Kikuji x Iwane Ai.
Each session begins in front of the Gallery with a short introduction to the exhibition before moving into the Gallery space to focus on a chosen artwork.
Each talk shines a spotlight on a single work or series, offering an opportunity to slow down and look closely at a photograph, tracing either its historical context or artistic significance.
The talks will explore themes such as the significance of the photobooks in modern Japan through the concrete lens of Kawada Kikuji’s landmark Chizu(The Map) or Iwane Ai’s ANew River series set against the folklore and traditions of the Tōhoku region.
Each talk lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes an opportunity to ask questions. Visitors are welcome to continue exploring the exhibition at their own pace afterwards.
