Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Patrick Hahn with Visual by Tatsuru Arai – The Bowie Symphony (No.4) by Phillip Glass

A uniquely Sonica way to mark the tenth anniversary of the death of David Bowie, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra performs Philip Glass’s Bowie Symphony No.4 “Heroes” (1995), a sweeping orchestral reimagining of Bowie’s magisterial 1977 album. The RSNO will also perform the Prelude from Glass’s Akhnaten (1983), a stately epic of ritual and ascension. Accompanying generative visuals by Tatsuru Arai transform this transcendent music into endlessly unfolding hyperreal vistas.

Part of Sonica Glasgow 2026, the eleventh instalment of Scotland’s festival of music, audiovisual and immersive arts, brought to you by Cryptic.

Supported by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. Developed during Cryptic’s Cove Park Residency 2026.
