Experience the benefits of jikyō-jutsu, a therapeutic movement system developed in Japan, through regular practice sessions at Japan House London.
Created in 1916 by Nakai Fusagorō, jikyō-jutsu (lit. ‘the technique of self-strengthening’), was designed to support health and mobility, and to ease symptoms like stiffness and back pain. It’s a whole-body routine of 31 movements that mobilize the joints, loosen tight muscles and improve blood circulation. The aim is to bring the body into balance, stimulate its natural self-regulating mechanisms and nurture a sense of wellbeing.
Each practice session will focus on a selected part of 31 movements, breaking the series into four blocks. During each session, the instructor will look closely at a chosen aspect of jikyō-jutsu practice, from stimulating self-massage techniques, through energizing breathing exercises to stretching and strengthening movements, paying close attention to the safe and correct way of performing them.
Practice sessions start at beginner level, gradually increasing the number of repetitions and level of difficulty as the participants develop their understanding of the techniques and build up their strength and flexibility. At the end of each session, there is time to ask the instructor questions and chat to other practitioners while enjoying a complimentary cup of tea.
The event series offers the first-ever opportunity to practise jikyō-jutsu with a certified instructor in the UK.
