Japan House Sake Bar at British Museum Screening of 'The Wind Rises'

On Friday 9 August Japan House London will host its last sake bar at the British Museum for a film screening of Studio Ghibli's 'The Wind Rises'. Guests to this screening will also get to sit in on a live recording of podcast Ghibliotheque, listening to Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham delve into the history behind Studio Ghibli.

'The Wind Rises' is based on the tale of Jiro Hirokoshi, a real-life aviation engineer during WWII. As a young boy, Jiro's dreams of piloting airplanes are dashed with his diminishing eyesight. Undeterred, Jiro turns his attentions to aeronautical design, achieving success, tinged with regret, at his successful creation of the Zero fighter plane used in the first few years of the war.

Prior to the screening, ticket holders will be able to enjoy a cup of complimentary sake at the Japan House sake bar. This event will welcome sake from Niizawa Brewery based in Miyagi Prefecture in northern Honshu. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the sake bar before the film.

This is a recurring event in collaboration with the British Museum, running as part of the summer season of manga taking place in London. See here for the past event details.

Please note that a Challenge 25 policy will operate during this event, so guests who look under 25 may be asked to show proof of age.

Booking Essential; Admission £12.50 / £11 (concessions)
