Japanese Workshop Days

This weekend of workshops is a fantastic opportunity to learn from Professor Masao Fukuhara, who restored the Japanese Garden at Kew and has flown over from Japan especially for this weekend at Cowden.

Each day includes garden entry, a full day of lectures/workshops, lunch and all materials included.

10.30 – 16.00
Cost: £50 per person

Programme
10.30 – 11.45 Tea Ceremony Demonstration by Japanese Garden Restoration Team (Demonstration and informal talk)
11.45 – 13.15 Lunch (tea/coffee, sandwiches and biscuits) and unaccompanied Garden Visit.
13.15 – 14.15 Lecture on Cowden Garden Restoration by Professor Masao Fukuhara (Lecture)
14.30 – 16.00 Sumi painting/Japanese calligraphy and its relationship to Japanese Garden Design by Koshu (Lecture and Demonstration)

Includes
Garden entry, full day lecture programme, light lunch, tea/coffee (available throughout the day).

Information
This event and lunch will take place in an unheated marquee, so please dress appropriately.
Disabled access available. Please inform us of any dietary requirements.
Garden gates will open at 10am. Please inform reception on arrival.

The group will be split prior to event. If you are booking with a friend and would like to participate together, please let us know.
Morning
Group 1 – Japanese Garden Design workshop by Professor Fukuhara (Lecture and Drawing involved)
Group 2 – Japanese Garden Construction Talk and Walk looking at elements of the Garden
construction in Cowden followed by a hands-on bamboo fence building session by Junya and Daijiro

Lunch
Group 1 & 2 Lunch (tea/coffee, sandwiches and biscuits) and Garden Tour and discussion on Japanese Garden Maintenance by Kate White, Cowden Head Gardener.

Afternoon
Group 2 – Japanese Garden Design workshop by Professor Fukuhara (Lecture and Drawing involved)
Group 1 – Japanese Garden Construction Talk and Walk looking at elements of the Garden
construction in Cowden followed by a hands-on bamboo fence building session by Junya and Daijiro

Information
Predominantly practical day. Please come for wet conditions, with full waterproof and waterproof boots. Activities involve an element of walking, lifting and bending. If you require any further information, please contact us.
