Screening of an independent Japanese film from a young and fresh new director. Screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director Asato Watanabe and cast.
A DOBUGAWA DREAM follows a young man named Tatsumi, who is trapped in a claustrophobic home having been cripplingly disturbed by the suicide of a close friend. He finally flees, and wanders the streets without a job or a home. After a particularly absurd sequence, he meets the eccentric Tsuchiro, an older man with his own inner battles. The two strike up a bizarre friendship, and Tatsumi finds what could be described as a substitute family in this strange, surreal world of suburban Japan, formed of Tsuchiro; a barmaid; a dancer; and a hapless police officer.
