Henry Dyer Memorial Event

A Showcase of Henry Dyer: Collaborations and Exchanges between Glasgow and Japan

The University of Glasgow is delighted to invite you to the Henry Dyer Memorial Event, on the afternoon of 23 September, to celebrate the long-standing links between Japan and the City of Glasgow.

The year 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Imperial School of Engineering in Tokyo, by Henry Dyer - a protege of Rankine and a graduate of both Anderson's College (now the University of Strathclyde) and The University of Glasgow. This later became the Faculty of Engineering in The University of Tokyo. The School of Telegraphy was thereby formed, resulting in the creation of the oldest Electronic Engineering Department in the world.

We initiate our celebration programme with this event to highlight these historic links and showcase existing collaborations and exchanges, whilst providing information for possible Fellowship and Grant opportunities.
