Go! Gender Go! Japan: Media Narratives of Identity

The University of Manchester in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Economic and Social Research Council bring to the audience media narratives of gender and identity in Japan. Join a panel of experts to dive into the kaleidoscopic dimensions of living, performing, and wearing gender in Japanese society, explored through media screenings and pop culture engagement. From anime and manga to films and theatre, there will be an open conversation between speakers and audience both through live social media and interactive discussions.

Refreshments will be provided, along with a great chance for networking with people interested in Japan, gender, and beyond. Come along and discover traditional and new gender embodiments in contemporary Japan, and how this is approached in ground-breaking research!

SUITABLE FOR: This event is suitable for everybody, from the age of 16 upwards. No previous knowledge on Japan required!
