Raked gravel, a gurgling stream and an elegant stone arch framed by delicate cherry trees in the heart of Birmingham – it’s Brindleyplace’s Cherry Blossom Garden, a place for reflection and contemplation. It awakens memories of the zen gardens of Japanese temples like Ryoanji in Kyoto, which inspired John Cage to compose music that evokes the soothing shapes of gravel, water, trees and stones.
Escape and find a little calm as the cherry blossoms open in our own temple of zen while we perform Ryoanji, for flute with electronic sound projections and percussion, to coincide with John Newling’s Dear Nature exhibition at Ikon.
