"Japanese company, Brother International, have been sponsors of the Hallé for many years and in 2019 we are celebrating 30 years of consecutive sponsorship – which is an incredible achievement and makes it one of the most enduring partnerships between business and culture in the UK. We are proposing on working with Brother to present two performances of Madama Butterfly at the Bridgewater Hall on Thursday 28 May and Saturday 30 May 2020. Our Music Director and Principal Conductor, Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé Orchestra will be joined by the Japanese star soprano Eri Nakamura as Madama Butterfly - the rest of the cast is to be announced soon! It will be a semi-staged production and we are working with Gerard Jones, who directed the Hallé’s recent, highly acclaimed, performance of Wagner’s Siegfried; a young, impressive stage director who won the European Opera Directing Prize in 2018. It will inevitably be a wonderful event which will garner national and international attention and the performances are expected to sell out!"
