Japanese “Tsurushi-Bina:吊るし雛” (Hanging Dolls) Ornaments Online Workshop with Jessica Corlett

HYPER JAPAN is the largest exhibition celebrating Japanese culture to be held in the UK. Organized by Cross Media Ltd., it was first held in London 2010. Centred on Japanese cuisine and popular culture such as gaming, manga, anime and music, the event introduces a wide range of Japanese culture, encompassing technology, fashion, traditional crafts.
Having undertaken the difficult decision to postpone the Festival due to the spread of COVID-19, HYPER JAPAN is providing exclusive online content straight from Japan, including webinars, entertainment and shopping.

Japanese “Tsurushi-Bina : 吊るし雛” (Hanging Dolls) Ornaments - 2 hours Workshop

Learn to create different styles of traditional Japanese Doll Festival hanging ornaments and small toys in a social and friendly online event.
Tsurushi bina is a traditional decoration for Hina Matsuri - the Japanese Doll festival.  The dolls were originally made from leftover kimono silk so the idea of repurposing fabric scraps is central to this craft. It is a great activity for using up left over materials you might have lying around your house.
At this workshop, we will learn to hand sew 3 easy and popular ornament designs. A baby doll, the camellia flower, and a colourful triangle to represent Mount Fuji.
