The World Speech Day Japan 2021 is held at the largest scale ever, involving largely two types of speakers, ie Japanese university students who are the learners of English are giving their speech in English, and the learners of Japanese in the UK and other countries are delivering speech in Japanese.
The event will take the form of a “Speech Contest” but with emphasis on intercultural awareness and the interactive exchange of ideas, placing importance on the process of preparation and preparation and practice of speeches, as well as performance on the day of the day of the event itself.
This year, we have nearly 30 students from different parts of Japan are giving speeches in English, and around 10 students who are learning Japanese, giving their speeches in Japanese. They will work together and learn from each through the speech practise.
Two weeks before the final event, there will be two days’ semi-final events, where all the participants speeches will be streamed live. Through the selection process around 8 – 10 finalists will be chosen to present their speeches on the final.
We believe that everyone’s voice is important, and no matter what age group, background, at what stage of life there are at, everyone has something to say to the world. In this project, we hope to provide the stage for them to speak out as well as supporting them to prepare speeches in their target language.
