The Ambassador's Commendations were introduced in 2000 in order to recognise the contributions of those who had made outstanding efforts to promote grassroots exchange between the UK and Japan.

On December 15 Ambassador Nogami presented Jill Brooks, Assistant to the Executive Director of the Japan Society, with a certificate of commendation in recognition of her contribution to Japan-UK relations.

Jill Brooks has been a loyal member of the Japan Society's small team of staff since 1986. The unfailing professionalism and skill she has brought to the central task of co-ordinating the Society's work has been invaluable. In addition to her remarkable devotion to duty, her kindness and warmth have provided great strength to the organisation, thereby enhancing the relationship between Japan and the UK.

On presenting Miss Brooks with her certificate, Ambassador Nogami paid tribute to her for the sterling job she has done for the Japan Society during her 17 years of service. "I am full of admiration for the wonderful contribution she has made to the health and expansion of The Japan Society, and therefore to the development of cordial Japan-UK relations."
