On 3rd November 2011, the Government of Japan announced the 2011 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. The Decoration is conferred on those individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions towards friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and their own countries.
Jonathan Thorpe Gregory (Chairman of the UK-Japan Music Society and Music Director of the UK-Japan Choir)
On 2nd December 2011, Mr Jonathan Gregory was conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette for his contribution to the promotion of cultural exchange between Japan and the UK through musical activities with musicians from both countries.
Mr Gregory said;
"I am deeply honoured to have been given the decoration of The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette and see that as recognition of the work of my wife and myself and of the dedication and support of very many Japanese and UK singers and friends."
