Arrival of the new Japanese Ambassador, Yoshiji Nogami
Mr Yoshiji Nogami, the new Ambassador of Japan to the Court of St. James's, arrived in London on October 15 2004. He has replaced Mr Masaki Orita, who returned to Japan on October 13 after completion of his duty in the UK.
A graduate of Tokyo University, Mr Nogami joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in 1966. At the Ministry's Head Office he served as Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau, as Deputy Minister and then as Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2001.
Abroad, he occupied the posts of Consul-General of Japan to Hong Kong and Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
Since September 2002 Mr Nogami has been a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
Mr Nogami is married with three sons.
