On February 11th Ambassador and Madame Nogami hosted a reception in the impressive Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall to celebrate the appointment of Mr Peter Heginbotham as Honorary Consul of Japan in Manchester.

As well as making public the establishment of the post of Honorary Consul of Japan in Manchester and Mr Heginbothams appointment to this position while paying due recognition to the significant number of Japanese nationals and companies based in North West England, the event reflected the great importance placed by the Embassy on encouraging exchange between the Japanese and local communities, including local government and business circles, and on strengthening and deepening the level of economic and cultural interaction between Japan and the North West.

The reception was attended by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glyn Evans, and a large number of people involved with Japan from local authorities as well as commercial and cultural organisations together with representatives of the North West England Japanese Companies Association and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UK. Everyone attending the reception clearly felt it to be a great success. The fact that it took place in such an ornate setting reflects the enthusiastic support of the City of Manchester.
