Presentation of Ambassador鐃緒申s Commendation to Lady Carol Holland
On 1 May, Lady Carol Holland, Chair of the Bernard Leach Trust, was presented with the Ambassador鐃緒申s Commendation for her leading role in the restoration of the Leach Pottery in St. Ives.
Presenting the Commendation, Mr. Ken Okaniwa, Minister of the Embassy of Japan said, 鐃緒申Thanks to Lady Holland, the Leach Pottery is a thriving art institution, exhibiting works of Bernard Leach, conducting education on pottery, and it provides a focal point of interaction between artists from Britain and Japan. I am sure that if Bernard Leach were alive, he would have been extremely proud of this achievement.鐃緒申
Lady Holland said, 鐃緒申I am delighted and honoured to be awarded the Commendation. We have received tremendous support over the last five years from the Japan Embassy in London, the British Embassy in Tokyo, from many donors, friends and supporters in Japan.鐃緒申
This presentation coincided with the opening of the new exhibition, 鐃緒申Hamada鐃緒申s St. Ives鐃緒申. Shoji Hamada was a Japanese potter who worked together with Bernard Leach in establishing a pottery at St. Ives. Local artists, friends and the media attended gathered at the museum to celebrate this occasion.
(Note) The Ambassador鐃緒申s Commendation is bestowed to individuals/groups with outstanding contribution to the promotion of friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.
