Ambassador Tsuruoka honours Mrs Yoko Morishima

On 24 November 2017, Mrs Yoko Morishima was awarded the Ambassador’s Commendation for her distinguished contribution to the Japanese community and to deepening the friendship between Japan and the United Kingdom.
Mrs Morishima is the head of the UK branch of The International Children’s Bunko Association, which was established in 1983. The 36 ICBA bunko or mini-libraries in the UK provide a space for Japanese children to familiarise themselves with their language and culture through reading aloud, kamishibai storyboard theatre and origami, playing an important role in helping children connect with their Japanese identity.
Mrs Morishima has been a central figure in the Japanese Women's Association in Great Britain since 1976, being particularly closely associated with the ‘Living in London Handbook’which was first published in 1982. She has also been widely recognised for her fundraising efforts and for her charitable work.
Ambassador Tsuruoka thanked Mrs Morishima for her dedication to connecting people and organisations, both within the Japanese community and beyond.
