2018 Ambassador's Commendation – The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation

Ambassador Tsuruoka and Chairman Sir Peter WilliamsOn 29 October 2018, the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation was awarded the Ambassador's Commendation for its accomplishments in fostering closer links between Japan and the UK. The award took place at a reception to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Foundation and was attended by many recipients of its scholarships and grants as well as contributors to its events programme.

In his remarks, Ambassador Tsuruoka praised the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation for its tireless efforts in creating opportunities for those to strengthen UK-Japan ties in the fields of the arts and education by awarding scholarships, making grants and organising a year-round programme of events including exhibitions, concerts and talks. He said the decision to award the Ambassador’s Commendation reflected the Japanese government’s deep appreciation of the Foundation’s important contribution to our bilateral relations and he was confident that the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation would continue to thrive in the years ahead.

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Chairman Sir Peter Williams thanked the Japanese government for extending its recognition in this way and paid tribute to Daiwa Securities Co Ltd whose generous support has enabled the Foundation to carry out its activities. He acknowledged the significant roles played by former and current trustees, chairmen and staff and in conclusion, he asserted that the Foundation would continue to bring Japan and the UK closer together.
