Anno's Journey: In and Around the Ancient Capital

Anno Mitsumasa is one of Japan’s most fêted artists who has captured the imagination of audiences in his home country and further afield for more than 50 years. The prize-winning artist is most famous for his illustrations which have appeared in numerous picture books and children’s publications.

This exhibition focuses on a series of watercolours portraying the picturesque views of Kyoto and its surroundings painted by the artist in homage to the genre of 16th century screen paintings depicting the scenery of the then capital of Japan.
