Ambassador's Commendation - Ms Yoshiko Jones

2020/11/24
On 12 February 2020, at the reception for the 30th Sir Peter Parker Awards for Spoken Business Japanese held at SOAS University of London, Ms Yoshiko Jones was awarded the Ambassador's Commendation for her invaluable contribution to closer links between the UK and Japan.

Ms Jones has engaged with Japanese teaching and learning over many years and has contributed in nurturing the talents of a number of proficient speakers of Japanese.

Especially, from its outset, she has played a central role in organizing the Sir Peter Parker Awards for Spoken Business Japanese. The Awards, established in 1990 at the suggestion of Sir Peter Parker, aim to deepen the understanding of Japanese business culture through the study of the Japanese language, thus making a valuable contribution to our two countries’ cordial and mutually-beneficial relationship.

The Awards marked the 30th anniversary this year. In his speech, Ambassador Nagamine paid tribute to Ms Jones’s contributions saying, “Clearly, 30 years is such a long period of time. Managing an outstanding event for 30 years undoubtedly requires a great amount of endeavour. I am convinced that without her longstanding robust organisational skills, this passionate and vibrant atmosphere could never have been created.”

Ms Jones thanked the Ambassador and stressed the importance of speech contest as a way of promoting the Japanese language outside of classroom. She was grateful that her work in such promotion for many years was recognised in this way.
