14th Manga Jiman Competition Results

2020 was a year of firsts for the Manga Jiman competition. We accepted entries by email for the first time, established a new dedicated website for the competition, started an instagram page, and have a new first prize from the Japanese Gallery Kensington. In extraordinary circumstances, the organisers and judges were blown away with the creativity of the artists who entered the 2020 competition.

On Wednesday 24 February 2021, the results were announced via a live streamed awards ceremony - another first for the competition! If you missed the livestream, it is available to watch in full here;

All of the winning entries are available to read on the Manga Jiman website.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who took the time to enter, and for making the 14th Manga Jiman competition one to remember.

We are pleased to confirm the results of the competition here

In first place, winning an original poster from the Full Metal Alchemist, an original woodblock print and a £100 voucher for cel-ga.com, was Chloe Starling, with her entry Even Androids Dream. The judges were impressed with how Chloe portrayed the theme of technology with warmth and emotion, using a layout with an intricate and interesting geometric design.
In second place, winning a A3 ScanSnap scanner from PFU Fujitsu, was Steven Wang and Cristian Gabriel Ybarra, with their entry ISAMOV and M.A.I.D. The judges praised the multiple twists and playfulness of the story. In third place, winning a RICOH THETA SC2 Camera was Roberta Paludi, with her entry Tea Time. The judges were wowed by the elegant page layouts, and atmospheric appeal of the work.
To hear more from the judges, don’t forget to watch the awards ceremony video at the top of this page - their advice is a valuable tool for all budding manga creators!
