On 4 October, the 16th Japan Matsuri was held at London’s Trafalgar Square, with approximately 40,000 visitors throughout the day.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki expressed his gratitude to the visitors and organisers. Among the distinguished guests, Steve Reed OBE, former Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, remarked that Japan and the UK share many similarities, and that he wished to celebrate the lasting friendship not only between the two countries, but also between their people.

The main stage featured a wide range of performances, from traditional Japanese culture such as taiko drumming and sumo to pop culture, including anime songs and cosplay. More than 60 stalls were set up inside the square, offering everything from Japanese street food and kimonos to tourism information from various regions of Japan. The lively atmosphere continued throughout the day, making the event a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture.
