Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime’s visit to Wales

On 9 and 10 July 2021, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime of Japan in the UK visited Wales where he met and exchanged views with several leaders including Rt Hon Mark Drakeford MS, First Minister of Wales. Ambassador Hayashi also visited GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, St Fagans National Museum of History, and Wales Japanese Saturday School.

Meeting with Rt Hon Mark Drakeford MS, First Minister of Wales


On 9 July 2021, Ambassador Hayashi had a meeting with Rt Hon Mark Drakeford MS, First Minister of Wales. They exchanged views on many aspects of the Japan-Wales relationship, including economic relations, energy and climate change issues, cultural and educational exchanges, and cooperation for the future.
 

Visit to GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd.


Later on 9 July, Ambassador Hayashi visited GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd. He was briefed on the company’s ongoing development by CEO Andrew Taylor and he also viewed the battery manufacturing line there.
 

Meeting with Mr Vaughan Gething MS, Minister for Economy of Wales

Also on 9 July, Ambassador Hayashi had a meeting with Mr Vaughan Gething MS, Minister for Economy of Wales. They exchanged views on the Japan-Wales trade relations and future cooperation in the areas such as renewable energy and cyber security.
 

Visit to St Fagans National Museum of History


On 10 July, Ambassador visited St Fagans National Museum of History and exchanged views on Japan-Wales cultural exchanges with Ms Dawn Bowden MS, Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Mr Lynn Davies CBE, a Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games gold medalist. He also visited the museum’s exhibitions including traditional Welsh style houses.
 

Visit to Wales Japanese Saturday School


Later on 10 July, Ambassador Hayashi visited Wales Japanese Saturday School. He was briefed on the activities of the school by the Chair of Wales Japan Club, Mr MORIMOTO Yasushi, and visited classrooms where students took lessons.
