Tatton Park Mini Matsuri
2021/8/10
Saturday 14 August, 11:00-15:00
Tatton Park, Cheshire

The Embassy of Japan is pleased to be supporting Japan Society North West and the JET Alumni Association of the UK in hosting a Japanese festival in the renowned Tatton Park.
The Japanese Garden at Tatton Park came in to existence almost certainly as the result of a visit by Alan de Tatton, 3rd Baron Egerton of Tatton, to the Anglo Japanese Exhibition at London’s White City in 1910. An exceptional example of a Japanese tea garden remains at Tatton Park to this day, and the garden will form the hub of the Mini Matsuri*.
Activities

ORIGAMI || TANZAKU WISH STRIPS
Visitors will be able to try their hand at origami paper crafts, and take part in the tradition of writing a wish on a colourful strip of paper called tanzaku in Japanese. The wishes are traditionally tied to a bamboo tree as part of the festival of Tanabata, and the spirit of the festival will be accessible to all at Tatton Park!
Performances and Demonstrations
IKEBANA || KOTO MUSIC || KIMONOIkebana flower arranging demonstrations will show the basic structures involved in the art of Japanese flower arranging. Why not get inspired and take home what you’ve learnt and have a go at making your own ikebana arrangement? There will also be demonstrations of kimono dressing, and the delightful sounds of the koto will fill the garden in a special musical performance.
Japanese Garden Tours

The Japanese Garden at Tatton Park is usually only visible from the perimeter, but guided tours of the garden will be given on the day. Please enquire at the gates if you wish to take part in a tour, and arrive early to avoid dissapointment.
