Japanese Government honours Sir Jeremy Farrar

On Wednesday 27 October 2021, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime bestowed upon Sir Jeremy Farrar (Director of the Wellcome Trust) The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon at a bestowal ceremony held at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan.
Sir Jeremy has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the field of global health, and has been one of the UK’s leading experts in the fight against COVID-19. He has also played a significant role over many years in Japan-UK relations through his support to GHIT (Global Health Innovative Technology Fund) and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness).
At the Ceremony, Ambassador Hayashi paid his respects to Sir Jeremy for his many achievements, and expressed his hope that Sir Jeremy would continue to support the development of Japan’s contribution to global health.
In return, Sir Jeremy expressed his appreciation for Japan’s contribution in the field of public health, including in the fight against COVID-19, and his wish to further strengthen the UK’s cooperation with Japan.
