Ambassador Hayashi’s visit to the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures and the University of East Anglia

On 25 February 2022, Ambassador Hayashi travelled to Norwich where he visited the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures and University of East Anglia.
At the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures, Ambassador Hayashi learned of the Institute’s activities from Professor Simon Kaner, Director of the Sainsbury Institute, and viewed the Japan-related artefacts and documents in their collection.

At the University of East Anglia, Ambassador Hayashi was greeted by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor David Richardson, and attended a workshop for postgraduate students in Japanese studies organized by the British Association for Japanese Studies and the Japan Foundation.
In his speech, Ambassador Hayashi stated that the pandemic had disrupted the exchanges involving people in the field of academia but hoped that the exchanges of students and researchers would resume in line with the easing of infectious situations and that the ties between Japan and the UK would become even deeper through such exchanges.
