Ambassador & Madame Hayashi's attendance at the opening of Kyōsai: The Israel Goldman Collection
2022/3/15

On 15 March, Ambassador and Madame Hayashi attended the opening of the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition Kyōsai: The Israel Goldman Collection. It introduces the works of the prodigious artist KAWANABE Kyōsai, who was active in the turbulent years from the end of the Edo Period to the early part of the Meiji Era in the latter half of the 19th century.
At the reception, Ambassador Hayashi remarked that Kyōsai was a pre-eminent artist particularly celebrated for his ability to bridge traditional art and popular culture. He added that, just as the artist’s works had appealed to a variety of his contemporaries including foreign advisers employed by the Meiji Government, those on display on this occasion would surely strike a chord with a lot of people from varying cultural backgrounds today.
The exhibition will run from 19 March to 19 June 2022.
