Ambassador Hayashi’s visit to the University of Oxford

On 13 May 2022, Ambassador Hayashi visited the University of Oxford. He first toured the Bodleian Library and then gave a talk at St Antony’s College, Oxford.

At the Bodleian Library, Ambassador Hayashi viewed the Japan-related artefacts and documents in their collection under the guidance of Mr Richard Ovenden OBE, the Bodley’s Librarian, with whom he exchanged views on the activities of the Library.

Moving on to the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies at St Antony’s College, Oxford, Ambassador Hayashi delivered a speech under the title of “The UK-Japan Partnership in a Turbulent Era”. His talk focused on the partnership between Japan and the UK, including Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to the UK in early May and cooperation towards a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, and also covered the current situation in Ukraine and elsewhere in the international community. At the High Table Dinner afterwards, Ambassador Hayashi discussed Japan-UK cooperation and the international situation with Professors and Fellows of the University.
