Ambassador Hayashi’s message on the UK's removal of imports controls for food products from Japan
2022/6/29
I sincerely welcome today’s news regarding the removal of import controls on Japanese food products. This issue has been discussed at summit level on a number of occasions as the important issue between the UK and Japan. It is also pleasing that the removal has been achieved on the basis of scientific review conducted independently by the UK’s food safety authority after Brexit.
The early removal of these controls was not only welcomed by businesses importing Japanese food products into the UK, but was also strongly hoped for by all Japanese citizens, especially those with links to Fukushima Prefecture, as a symbol of reconstruction following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to this achievement, and I hope that this will be an opportunity for deepening of the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the future.
