Ambassador Hayashi’s attendance at the Fukushima Garden 10th anniversary ceremony

On 7 September, Ambassador Hayashi attended the 10th anniversary ceremony for the Fukushima Garden* in Holland Park. The event was attended by many people from the UK and Fukushima Prefecture, including; the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Councillor David Lindsay, former Member of Parliament Lady Victoria Borwick as well as the Vice Governor of Fukushima Prefecture Mr Ide Takatoshi, the Deputy Mayor of Motomiya City Mr Watanabe Masahiro, the President of the Fukushima Minpo Newspaper Mr Yoshimi Koichi, the President of the Fukushima Prefectural Association in London Mr Mitsuyama Yoshio.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Hayashi expressed his appreciation for the contribution of all those involved in opening the garden and the dedication of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to keep it so enchanting. He also expressed his hope that the Fukushima Garden, which was celebrated with its 10th anniversary, would continue to be cherished by the people of both countries as a symbol of the recovery from the disaster and of the buoyant exchange between the UK and Japan.
*The Fukushima Garden was opened in 2012 with the cooperation of the Fukushima Prefectural Association in London, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and other organisations to show appreciation for the support extended by the UK following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Those attending the ceremony witnessed the planting of a cherry tree and the unveiling of a bench donated by the Fukushima Minpo Newspaper.
