Japanese Government honours Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan

On Wednesday 28 September 2022, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime bestowed upon Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at a ceremony held at the Ambassador's residence.
As President of the Royal Society and through various initiatives such as the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum, Dr Ramakrishnan has contributed significantly to research exchange, as well as to scientific and academic cooperation, between Japan and the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Hayashi paid tribute to Dr Ramakrishnan’s achievements to date, and expressed his wish for continued support towards further developing the Japan-UK relationship in the science and technology field.
In the presence of his former colleagues of the Royal Society and family, Dr Ramakrishnan conveyed his gratitude to those who had supported him in his activities over the years. Mentioning his fond memories of Japan from his graduate studies and similarities and resemblances values between Japan and the UK, he also highlighted the increasing importance of the Japan-UK relationship in the science and technology field, and pledged to continue to play a vital role in its development.
