Ambassador Hayashi’s attendance at the private viewing of the exhibition “Shoji Hamada: A Japanese Potter in Ditchling”
2022/10/21
On 21 October, Ambassador Hayashi attended the private viewing of the exhibition "Shoji Hamada: A Japanese Potter in Ditchling" at the Ditchling Museum of Art+Craft. The exhibition focuses on the time Hamada, who built the first climbing kiln in the Western world with his fellow potter Bernard Leach, spent in the village of Ditchling.
Ambassador Hayashi remarked that Hamada’s experience at Ditchling had a profound influence on his life and work as a potter and that the cordial ties he established with the UK were a source of inspiration to us even today. He added that he hoped the exhibition would provide an opportunity for many people to enjoy Hamada’s artistry and that it would help to strengthen the ties of friendship between Japan and the UK.
The exhibition will run from 22 October 2022 to 16 April 2023.
