Bilateral Field Training Exercise by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and the British Army “VIGILANT ISLES 22”

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and the British Army will conduct a bilateral field training exercise -“Vigilant Isles 22”, from 22 to 30 Nov in Japan.

The objectives of this exercise is to develop JGSDF’s operational capabilities and to promote a mutual understanding and trust between the JGSDF and the British Army. The exercise is a joint exercise on island defense based on the geographical characteristics of both Japan and the United Kingdom.

In this year marks the 120th anniversary of the conclusion of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, following the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ships visit the UK, the relationship between the UK and Japan is being strengthened in the army sector as well. Japan-UK defence cooperation contributes not only to the security of Japan but to ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and the international community as well as addressing global challenges.
